The choir’s repertoire includes both sacred and secular selections in a variety of musical styles. Selections include Tallis’s “If Ye Love Me,” Handel’s “Hallelujah, Amen,” and Rutter’s “Forthe Beauty of the Earth,”. The secondportion of the concert includes a collection of secular pieces including Johannes Brahms’s “O Schone Nacht,” and the South African Xhoshan Folk Song “Dubula.”The concert concludes with several African American Spirituals, including “I’veBeen ‘Bucked’ Children!” arranged by Rollo Dilworth, and the title track fromthe choir’s recent album, “True Light.”

About the Messiah College Concert Choir

The Messiah College Concert Choir is the premier vocal ensemble of the Departmentof Music at Messiah College. Under the direction of Linda L.Tedford, the fifth conductor in the group’s history, the Concert Choir has enjoyed critical acclaim as a result of their performances and recordings. Student participants are chosen annually through competitive auditions from various academic majors and represent across-section of the Messiah College community. The choir has toured extensively in the United States, as well as Ireland, Austria, and the Czech Republic. In addition to campus and community concerts, the Messiah College Concert Choir frequently performs with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra as part of their Masterworks Series. The Concert Choir maintains an active recording schedule, producing a new album every year. They have been the featured choir for Kalmus Publications and Mark Foster Publications on their internationally distributedCompact discs.

Living Nativity

Dec 16 and 17, 6:00 – 8:00 pm

The McKeesport Alliance Church will hold its first Living Nativity on December 16 and 17.  From 6-8pm, people can walk up to the display or drive by.  Free hot chocolate will be provided.  The goal of the Living Nativity is to remind everyone about the true meaning of Christmas.

The service will be hosted this year by the McKeesport Alliance Church located at 938 Summit Street in McKeesport. More than a dozen churches and ministries are participating in this years service. The service will include congregational singing, special music, a joint choir and a message presented by Captain Sean Barton of the McKeesport Salvation Army. The Ministerium recently decided to present a Community Servant Award annually to a person they believe has offered sacrificial service to our community. The ministerium is pleased to announce that this years recipient is Mr. Gerald “Puddin” Grayson, and that the award will be presented at the service. The community is invited to join us for this service and remain for a cookie fellowship following the service.

Chiz Rider will be returning to McKeesport Alliance Church on Sunday, September 25.  He will perform a few songs at the morning service at 10:45 am and will offer a full concert at 7:00 pm.  His concerts are always full of energy and are enjoyed by people of all ages.

Chiz Rider performs over 250 concerts annually throughout North America as well as several international tours. He has preformed with such popular Christian artists as Carman, Margaret Becker, DC Talk, Newsboys, Cindy Morgan, Apologetics, Skillet, Larnell Harris, and Michael W. Smith. He has also performed at a Billy Graham Crusade and numerous times at the Crystal Cathedral.

Chiz played for President Bush as well as several multi-state governors’ prayer breakfasts. He has also performed at the opening ceremonies of the Pennsylvania and West Virginia Special Olympics. Chiz has several videos out, one of which has won an Emmy for “Outstanding Broadcast Performance” The same video has played on Light Music and VH-1.

Join us each Sunday between September 25 and October 23.  For five weeks we will be examining the message of our founder, A.B. Simpson which has been known as “The Fourfold Gospel.”  This series will help each of us understand the foundational teaching of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, but it is much more than that!  At the heart of this message is a challenge for every believer to discover and experience a life that is all about Jesus.

Each of the Sunday School classes will be doing the same study for those five weeks at 9:30am.  There will be a total of five adult classes open for you to join, including two brand new options:

  • Men’s Class: location- fellowship hall, 1st floor; teachers-Ken Close and David Mozeik
  • Ladies Class: location-ladies classroom, off of sanctuary, 2nd floor; Terry Wiechmann, Val  Peddicord, Char Close
  • Young At Heart: location-church library, 2nd floor; Harold Hale
  • Young Adult: location-to be announced; Pastor Doug and VLD Kagey
  • Quest: location-to be announced; Mark Lewis and Marty Smith

The worship service each week will be guided by the CMA DNA theme for that week.  Plan to be with us each week for the series.

]]> http://mckeesportalliance.org/2011/09/the-fourfold-gospel-its-all-about-jesus/feed/ 0 September 11 Memorial Service http://mckeesportalliance.org/2011/09/september-11-memorial-service/ http://mckeesportalliance.org/2011/09/september-11-memorial-service/#comments Sat, 10 Sep 2011 15:35:08 +0000 admin http://mckeesportalliance.org/?p=679 The McKeesport Alliance Church would like to invite the community to join us for our September 11 Memorial Service on Sunday, September 11, 2011.  At 9:03 a parade will will be begin at White Oak EMS and proceed to 938 Summit Street.  The parade will include vehicles from the fire, police and emergency medical departments in McKeesport and White Oak including the Motorcycle Patrol Unit and Color Guard of the McKeesport City Police Department.  The participating vehicles  will travel down Lincoln Way, turn onto O’Neal Blvd, and then onto Summit Street.  We encourage the community to come out and show their support to our local first responders.  At 9:30, a fellowship with coffee and donuts is planned at the church.  The Memorial Service will begin at 10 am.

Each year the McKeesport Alliance Church has held a service to honor our local first responders.  With this being the 10th Anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we wanted to do something special.  The start time of 9:03 for the parade was chosen because it was the aproximate time that Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower of the Word Trade Center.  The memorial service has been planned to remember the thousands who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 in New York, Washington DC, and on Flight 93, including 343 New York City Fire Fighters, 23 New York City Police Officers, 37 Port Authority Police Officers, and 15 Emergency Medical Officers.  The service is also to provide an opportunity to thank our local first responders for their service to our community. Departments from Versailles Borough, Dravosburg, and Coulter were also invited to participate.

Join us each evening at 6pm, August 8-12.  All kids who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade are welcome to come.  Each night kids will sing awesome songs, experience a Bible Story, play games, create a craft and have a snack.  Our desire is that each kid discover that God is Wild About Them!  Call the church office to pre-register (412-678-1162).  The first 80 families who register will receive a gift.
